My name is Jeff Swain. I like to run. I don’t know why. But I do. I always did. For me running is a quest for transcendence. It’s an opportunity to push beyond my physical limitations to perhaps once get a glimpse of the Divine. For me running is more of an intellectual & spiritual endeavor that it is physical. The motion of running for me is similar to a mantra. It’s what I do to get to places I could not reach otherwise.Running is the closest I’ve ever come to feeling at one with the universe.
This space is designed to capture my journey as it unfolds. I’ll write about my training, fitness, nutrition, and races of course, but, I’d also like to share what the journey is about for me. What makes me tick & why and how running is a big part of it for me. I’d also like to know what you think. About me & my perceptions but also about yours. What is it that makes you run? Thanks.

What makes me run? Being late for my train bwhahaha I kid, I kid. Totally for the meditative aspect, as well as the physical. When i run it is like my body sighs with relief and says ‘yes, this is what i’ve been wanting to do, been made to do’.
Ruby,
That is exactly how I feel, like I was made to run. Let’s keep supporting each other on from an Awesome August (http://completelydelicious.wordpress.com/2011/07/23/awesome-august-lets-do-this-sht/?blogsub=confirmed#subscribe-blog) & everything after.
Running isn’t about racing to me. It’s something I do for myself- for my mental health as well as physical. It’s the only “sport” I have ever enjoyed participating in. I like your way of thinking, Jeff!
Right on Tyrona! My running is the time to be alone with myself. By going within I find I can connect with the greater OutThere. I originally started running to keep in shape for hockey & soccer and found that this was the place where I felt most at home. So while the other dropped away I kept on running
Hi Sara,
I can definitely see that in your reason for running with the beautiful pics of your twilight runs with the beautiful Florida coast as your backdrop. How can it not be a mystical experience?
